Board Committees

PCHP QuoteWe invite interested, qualified citizens to share their expertise and experience with Miss Ruby’s Kids by serving on the following committees. At the current time, we are especially interested in committee members who have experience in marketing, public relations, and fundraising to serve on the Resource and Development Committee. Please contact the MRK office at 843.436.7197 if you have skills in these or other areas that you would like to share with us.

Committee Chairs are normally chosen by the Board Chair in consultation with the Executive Director and the Governance Committee; committee members are chosen by chairpersons.  Guiding documents for committees are set by chairpersons in consultation with the Governance Committee.

Finance Committee

The Finance Committee assists the Treasurer in financial planning and oversight to ensure that the organization has adequate financial resources and reserves, is insured against risk, that programs are cost effective, that funders’ requirements and guidelines are met and that conflicts of interest are avoided.  As the organization grows, the committee will accept and review the audit reports each year.  The committee chair is appointed by the Board Chair and, in turn, appoints other committee members from among Board members or interested, qualified citizens.

Governance Committee

The Governance Committee is responsible for reviewing, recommending and monitoring best nonprofit practice standards, policies and procedures.  Governance is also responsible for board recruitment, training, education and evaluation.  The Nominating committee is a sub-committee of the Governance Committee. The Governance Chair, appointed by the Board Chair, appoints committee members who may be non-officer Board members or community members.

Program Committee

The Program Committee is responsible for support of program operations management and for recommendations to the Board of Directors on program size, scheduling, financial needs, and staffing.  The Committee also gives guidance to the Executive Director and Board on the feasibility and logistics of launching new program efforts.  The committee chair is appointed by the Board Chair and, in turn, appoints other committee members from among Board members or interested, qualified citizens.

Marketing & Fundraising Committee

The Marketing & Fundraising Committee, with support from the entire Board, is responsible for ensuring that the organization has adequate funds to carry out its purpose.  Responsibilities include drafting and mailing annual, follow up, and special solicitation mailings; identifying, stewarding, and soliciting major donors; organizing special outreach and fundraising events; publicizing Miss Ruby’s Kids throughout Georgetown County; and preparing the newsletter three times a year and the Annual Report once a year. The committee chair is appointed by the Board Chair and, in turn, appoints other committee members from among Board members or interested, qualified citizens.
