News Update

The Miss Ruby's Kids Board of Directors is excited to announce our new Executive Director Vernetta Dekine (pictured left) and our new Parent-Child Home Coordinator Natasha Brockington (pictured right). It is with open arms and excitement that we welcome Mrs. Dekine, a seasoned educator with impeccable integrity, a real passion for learning and a knack for building strong community partnerships. Ms. Brockington is a true professional with a history of serving the 'at risk' community and utilizing education as a key to help break the cycle of poverty.

News Update:

Mrs. Vernetta Dekine, Executive Director- Mrs. Vernetta Dekine is a retired educator from Georgetown County Schools where she served 22 years as a mathematics teacher on the middle and high schools level and 5 years as a Curriculum Coach. Presently, she is a part-time PACE Instructor with the State Department of Education and has worked in various capacities as a pre-school teacher and home daycare owner. Mrs. Dekine has a BS degree in Civil Engineering from SC State University, Master's degree in Reading from the Citadel, 30 plus hours in Education and was National Board Certified. She is married and the proud mom of four children and one grand-child.

Ms. Natasha Brockington, PCHP Coordinator- For the past fifteen years Natasha Brockington has worked in various education programs. She previously worked as a high school teacher, then transitioned to adult education working in GED and ESL programs and college access and completion programming. Throughout her career she has spent a significant amount of time working with both homeless youth and youth in foster care. Recently relocating to South Carolina, her passion for education and strong desire to advocate for families while working with them to break down barriers and excel in their education led her to Ms. Ruby's Kids. She is excited to be in her role as PCHP Coordinator and is looking forward to working with families in Georgetown County.

Miss Ruby’s Kids is a non-profit early literacy program serving families living in Georgetown County. Through our three programs, Parent-Child Home Program, Family Childcare Program and Education Mentor Program Miss Ruby’s Kids provides services to over 150 children and their families.

Modeled after the National Parent-Child Home Program, Miss Ruby’s Kids has grown from a pilot program serving 5 families to a well-respected, community supported organization fostering educational preparedness and providing high quality educational books and toys to low income families throughout our community.
